Consultative and diagnostic center (CDC) “Arbatsky” was founded in 1907 as a surgical clinic of Prince Chegodaev. From 1922 to 1925 — the central treatment and diagnostic institution in Moscow and the periphery. In 1925 the clinic was reorganized to serve the figures of science and culture of Moscow and was called the Polyclinic of the Central Clinical Hospital (Central Commission for the Improvement of the Life of Scientists). Since 1931 — Polyclinic of the Commission for the Promotion of Scientists. Since 1939 — the central polyclinic of the People’s Commissariat of Health (hereinafter — the central polyclinic of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR). From 1993 to 2003 — polyclinic No. 2 of the “State Medical Center of the Ministry of Health of Russia”. Since 2003 — polyclinic № 1 of the National Pirogov Medical Surgical Center. Since 2012 — the Consultative and Diagnostic Center “Arbatsky” of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “National Medical and Surgical Center named after N.I. Pirogov” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

In the CDC “Arbatsky” during its existence there worked outstanding domestic surgeons: A.V. Martynov, N.N. Burdenko, S.I. Spasokukotsky, A.N. Bakulev and others. Along with them, CDC “Arbatsky” was famous for therapists who made a huge contribution to medicine — V.F. Zelenin, D.D. Pletnev, G.F. Lang, V.D. Shervinsky. Outpatients were also consulted by outstanding obstetrician-gynecologists, including S.I. Blagovolin, I.L. Blaude, Yu.V. Snegirev.

The basis of the work of the CDC “Arbatsky” nowadays is the main idea of the Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center — adherence to the best traditions of Russian medicine, the desire to ensure the availability of medical assistance for the population on the principles of humanism and charity. According to the ratings of insurance companies, CDC “Arbatsky” is among the top ten consultative and diagnostic institutions in Moscow. The number of outpatient visits per year is more than 170 thousand.
