On December 5 and 6, the first symposium of the European Society of Ophthalmic Anesthesia (ESOA) was held in Swiss Engelberg. Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center was represented by Nikita Lyubitsev, an anesthesiologist, and Maria Glukhareva, an ophthalmologist.
The event highlighted the fundamental and current problems of regional anesthesia in the field of ophthalmology. Participants considered methods of anesthesia for various pathologies, injuries, neoplasms and plastics, as well as for cataract surgery.
Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center specialists took part in practical workshops: they studied retrobulbar blockade under ultrasound guidance, worked out methods of subtenon and parabulbar blockade on a simulator and veterinary models.
The classes were led by leading experts from the European Society of Ophthalmic Anesthesia and the British Ophthalmic Anesthesia Society (BOAS).
Employees of Pirogov National Medical and Surgical Center was very impressed by the trip. The knowledge and experience that they have acquired will help them in their future work.
