On May 11-14, 2019, the II All-Russian Congress with international participation “Actual issues of critical states medicine” was held in St. Petersburg.

The scientific forum brought together more than 1,300 anesthesiologists-reanimatologists, neurologists, cardiologists, surgeons, epidemiologists, clinical pharmacologists, nurses, medical students from 72 regions of the Russian Federation, countries of near and far abroad. Specialists of the Pirogov Center, chief anesthesiologist-reanimatologist M.D., Ph.D. prof. M.N. Zamyatin, head physician of the in-patient department, M.D. Ph.D. V.G. Gusarov, chief nurses Ya.S. Gaboyan and A.I. Pivkina joined the organizing committee of the congress, and also acted as moderators and speakers of scientific sessions. As part of the congress meeting program, presented reports were summarizing the experience of the Pirogov Center on the implementation of an antimicrobial strategy for rational use of antimicrobial agents, the expert opinion of the SCAT (antimicrobial therapy control strategy) team members on the prudent use of new antibiotics registered in the Russian Federation. Scientific reports on modern rules for the use of disinfectants in medical institutions and the principles of evidence-based nursing practice as a prerequisite for ensuring safe patient care were demonstrated at the nursing section. Poster report by anesthesiologist-reanimatologist M.V. Dementienko “Changes in the structure of pathogens and clinical outcomes of infection complicated by bacteremia in patients in the ICU as a result of the implementation of the antimicrobial therapy control strategy” was highly praised by the jury and took the third place among 58 reports of young scientists.
