The Children’s Consultative and Diagnostic Center of the Pirogov Center introduced a new effective method — transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which provides new opportunities in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of children with a wide range of neurological diseases.
The TMS technique is based on the non-invasive action of an alternating magnetic field on the central nervous system, which is created around a special coil applied to the head surface. The evoked potentials during the session of magnetic stimulation of the brain are recorded and allow to diagnose the functional state of the conducting nervous tracts. When carrying out therapy with TMS, the cell membranes of neurons are reversibly depolarized, so that nervous impulses which cause clinical effects in the brain are induced.
Indications for the use of TMS are:
- delay in speech and psychomotor development;
- depressive syndrome, neurotic reactions, violations of school skills;
- enuresis, encopresis;
- post-traumatic (including postoperative) motor disorders, the consequences of a stroke, craniocerebral trauma, infantile cerebral palsy;
- radiculopathy and myelopathy.
