March 31st, 2018 in the Pirogov Center was the forum of experts “Best practices and methods overcoming the barriers to the implementation of the Antibiotic stewardship program for inpatient care”.

The forum was attended by specialists from various regions of the Russian Federation (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Tomsk), which are engaged in the implementation of Antibiotic stewardship program for inpatient care in the hospitals of the Russian Federation. The forum discussed key issues related to the implementation of Antibiotic stewardship program for inpatient care in medical institutions, the main barriers encountered by specialists: lack of staff and funding, lack of understanding of the problem of antibiotic resistance by hospital administration, reluctance to act within the established algorithms by physicians prescribing antibiotics, lack of information technology and the possibility of automated data acquisition of microbiology. Live communication of colleagues in experience sharing allowed us to outline ways to overcome such barriers and expand the professional deterrent community antibiotic resistance in medical organizations of the Russian Federation.
