During his working visit to St. Petersburg, the President of Russia visited the National Almazov Medical Research Center, where the head of state had a conversation with representatives of the medical community.
Heads of large medical centers, representatives of patient organizations, educational institutions, medical associations of Russia took part in the meeting. A wide range of issues of the development of national healthcare was discussed.
In his speech during the meeting, the General Director of the National Pirogov Medical Surgical Center O.E. Karpov also noted two important points: the development of inbound medical tourism and the attraction of private investment in the industry. Both of these directions are implemented in the Pirogov Center.
“For two years, three thousand foreign patients turned to us. 750 patients came precisely to us for the technology of treatment of multiple sclerosis, which we created, which we patented” — said O.E. Karpov. Concerning the second question, Oleg Eduardovich announced the project of creating a children’s hospital on the principles of public-private partnership.
The head of state supported both these directions of development, drawing attention to the fact that the total volume of the world market of medical tourism is estimated at about $ 10.5 billions, with Russia still accounting for about $ 250 million and this area has tremendous opportunities for growth.
Regarding public-private partnership, the President noted that such cooperation must be clearly developed.
At the end of the meeting V.V. Putin thanked the participants for the results of the work and wished success in their important work.
